The old ones are displayed and the kde "wheel" at the upper right hand corner turns aproximately right amount of time as if it is still generating new ones. However, the $HOME/.thumbnails directotry does not change. Removing everything from $HOME/.thumbnails did not help; only empty $HOME/.thumbnails/normal directory was recreated.
