Because I thought at first you would only want to use enterprise on servers. And actually also because I thought we already had enough kernels anyway. But than people started to request highmem support, so latest smp kernels also had highmem support. But it was still i586, not i686 compiled. Ofcourse, discussions for 9.2 multimedia kernel are welcome... d.
