I don't think anyone could have drawn a reliable final conclusion from what the user had posted, but the fact that they did not even get an IP address seems to show that something besides the dhcp client is broken, most likely their card does not support ifplugd, and MII_NOT_SUPPORTED was not set in their ifcfg-eth0.
