I find it interesting that I'm the opposite. I have Very non-standard
machine - AMD K6-2 450Mhz, 128 meg ram, ATI Rage128 videoc ard, cdrw,
SBAWE32 older ISA version, Microtek X6EL scanner and HP952C USB printer. I
started with Mandrake 7.0 and have never had any trouble getting my hardware
to work or running apps. In fact, recently started to figure out WINE and
even some of the WIN apps run fine.

I did run into problems with other distros because they didn't support my
video card. RH, Slack, Caldera, SuSe. Some those probably do support it
now, but I'll stick with Mandrake. I like the install much better and
included software. I believe it was Caldera's distro was the only one that
recognized my WinTV card and installed software for it. Mandrake
recognizes it, but no software on the CD.
