It's actually not necessary even, you should be able to use:
isolinux/alt1/vmlinuz 
with 
isolinux/alt1/all.rdz
(as found in the cooker/i586 tree)

Just copy them both to your /boot, add an entry to your bootloader, and 
if necessary, run lilo.
