Agreed. And on a multi-user system, whose desktop should it appear on? My 
most common CD-writing uses are:
$ cdrecord -v dev=0,0.0 MandrakeLinux-9.1-CD1.i586.iso
and
$ cdrdao copy

And for the first command, it is most often run from an ssh session on 
someone else's box, where they most certainly don't want to have popups 
interfering with their work (it's bad enough me doing it ;-))
