When X test crashes at the end of installation (DrakX), user boots up, runs:
# XFdrake

test, it's fine, startx, not fine.

This happened on quite a few machines I have seen/heard of on 9.1, and
many many times I have written:
# mv /etc/XF86Config* /tmp
# XFdrake --noauto --noexpert
(don't test, just save)
# service dm restart

But I have only been able to reproduce it once, on a machine I couldn't
test any further on at the time ...

Buchan
