Hello, I've read some previous threads about problems with ALSA and new kernel and maybe they are being fixed by now. Anyway, I will report I'm also experiencing some kind of problems.
When playing with mpg123 but not within a graphical session, you have no problem; but whenever I start a desktop session (GNOME or KDE) and try playing with XMMS or MPLAYER I manage to play some music once and no more. System then complains that /dev/dsp is being occupied. I do not have such a problem reproducing the same steps with 9.2beta2 kernel. I have not tried to compile 0.96 myself. I will do if necessary. Sound module used is: intel8x0 and I have the following lines in /etc/modules.conf alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0 above snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm-oss Regards
