I upgraded to the 0.8mdk kernel today.
The snd-seq-midi module is still missing.
I am also now experiencing the problem that others have reported, that is,
/dev/dsp (the interface to alsa-oss) and /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p (or similar, the interface to raw ALSA) are tied up somehow, yet they are not, since alsa can be shut down without errors, which it cannot if something is actually communicating with it.

Do suse have their development version publicly available? Since Takashi is a suse employee, I can only assume their kernel has a working alsa we could steal? No?
