description:
Lilo assumes that my second hard drive contains windows and needs to be
remapped to be the first drive (map /dev/0x81 etc).
Lilo also assumes that my dos partition must require the table directive.
This problem has been around since version 6.
Lilo installation should ask more intelligent questions so that the bootable
drives are installed correctly.
I spent the past 3 releases (6.0 to 9.0) thinking I needed to use a floppy lilo
because lilo on the MBR was broken and therefore, the MBR needed to boot into
normal windows.
Problem was the drive remapping and the table directive without asking me
anything about how my hard drives were set up, or where Windows booted from.
On top of this, these directives were added without informing me that they were
now available.
I'm sure that me, being a veteran and taking 3 versions to discover this issue,
it must be making life very difficult for novices, because nowhere in the
documentation does it indicate what the real behavior of these directives are
until AFTER installation is complete.
Please add a couple of wizard type dialogs to the lilo install so that these
problems can be avoided.
Specifically - ask me where windows is located - first or second hard drive,
and whether they should be remapped. And lastly, whether I have dos installed
and where it is located (first or second hard drive).
When these locations are on the first hard drive, the additional parameters
(map and table) are not required.
