/home/* are given perms 0700 (and reset by msec when changed to 755)
for security reasons (though I'd like to see the ability to configure
certain directories as being allowed to be open like that).  AFAIR
/home/* _used_ to be 755 standardly.

But, as for the others, the problem is linuxconf making assumptions
that may have been true when the version was written, but no longer
are.

As an example, sendmail doesn't *want* to be suid root (warnings in
mail logs at least if you're running postfix) and linuxconf wants to
make it so.
