I am not testing for my personal choice, I try to understand the Mdk way for a newbie. 1 From Mdk: file:/usr/share/doc/mandrake/en/Starter.html/index.html: Install the jre RPM package. See Chapter 21, Package Management for information on how to install RPM packages. You can obtain the Java plugin on the Java web site. Follow the links to J2SE (Java 2, Standard Edition) and download JRE for Linux. Follow the directions in the README file included in the downloaded tarball (in this case, a compressed archive of files which ends with the .tar.gz extension) to complete the plugin installation. 2 When I follow the above instruction I get from Sun exactly the file I installed, and I don't understand if it changes position just because I read a written instruction by Mdk.
