hmmm, /usr/bin/xdvi probably has timestamp changed because
you added strace (well, I was saying to do add strace in a copy of it...).
Files in /usr/share/texmf/web2c has MD5 changed because format files
are maybe rebuilt.

But /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/XDvi has also the MD5 differenent. What does
it contains different than default one, i.e.:

XDvi*mfMode: ljfour
XDvi*pixelsPerInch: 600
XDvi*shrinkFactor: 8
XDvi*paper: a4
XDvi*wwwBrowser: mozilla
XDvi*thorough: true

Have you run texconfig before?

Regardless of what command-line parameters I give to xdvi, it always displays
the usage message and quits. It seems like the arguments are not getting passed
to the executable called from the wrapper script.

$ xdvi file.dvi
