uh, no, OSS/Free provides drivers for most cards, including PCI ones.
draksound's interface is terrible and counter-intuitive; for most cards, when
you run it it will show only one driver available, which will be whichever of
the two possible drivers for your card (OSS and ALSA) you are *NOT* currently
using. It never displays the currently used driver, which is very confusing. So
if you actually have a choice on the "recommended" list, that will be the OSS
driver if you're currently using the ALSA driver, and vice versa.

when you mute audio in xawtv, you are unable to unmute it again. the titlebar
says, that the volume has been restored but no sound.

stopping it and starting it again gives audio again.
