------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-10-09 07:58 -------
Progress. Using alsamixergui, I am able to get the microphone to work. However,
when I play a .wav file in Xmms, I get a screeching sound because the music is
being played way too fast. Other times in my testing, Xmms seems to hang and I
have to use Xkill. KDE system notifications are silent. The controls in
alsamixergui are confusing, e.g. what are the 3D controls and what should they
be set at? Or, what are the little circles above the scoll control for line, CD,
mic, and aux? What is the significance of the circles being red? Anyhow, here
are my current settings:

description:
I have a Shuttle AK32E motherboard with the VIA KT266A chipset. It is supposed
to use the via83xx driver (two choices, neither works.) I first had this problem
with Mandrake 9.1 and the problem has been discussed on the ALSA website.
Unfortunately, it still doesn't work with 9.2 RC1.

Sound does work under Win2000 but the only sound I get under Mandrake is when I
use XawTV with my bt848 TV tuner card. All my attempts at debugging point to a
properly working device, except it doesn't play sound!

What other information should I supply to help fix this bug?
