I had to start artsd & as root, and after some screeching, Xmms started playing. However, KDE applications are still not working and I've switched back to Mandrake 9.1. It is supposed to use the via83xx driver (two choices, neither works.) I first had this problem with Mandrake 9.1 and the problem has been discussed on the ALSA website. Unfortunately, it still doesn't work with 9.2 RC1. Sound does work under Win2000 but the only sound I get under Mandrake is when I use XawTV with my bt848 TV tuner card. All my attempts at debugging point to a properly working device, except it doesn't play sound! What other information should I supply to help fix this bug?
