Exactly the same here on a Dell Inspiron 8500 with Broadcomm 4400. 
But, on a fresh install suspend works. The problem is with the upgraded 
konfiguration, but I cannot figure what's wrong. I'll be happy to reveal 
configuration files on request.

Suspend to disk does not work after clicking the entry in the KDE start menu. My
computer got 521 MB RAM and my swap partition is 800MB big.

I'm getting the following message in /var/log/messages over and over again:

Sep 12 10:43:59 bluehurricane kernel: unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth0 to
become free. Usage count = 2

My ethernet card is a SIS 900based PCI fast ethernet card which is working great
with mandrake so far.
