from what i read at lkml,
ICH5 shoud work without problems with the libata driver & hard disks only
VIA was also added recently in libata

but libata is missing in the cooker kernels
in cooker the only SATA addition (against vanila kernel) is the promise OSS
driver

so it might be a good idea to wait a bit more before getting SATA hardware
