Without a firewall, active or passive should make no difference?
Active requires the ability for the remote server to make a TCP SYN
connection to the client (but the firewall prevents incoming TCP
connections).
With the gateway firewall down, except for masquerading, I still have
the
/sbin/modprobe ip_masq_ftp
module loaded. Significant? Dunno.
