I'd like to repoen this because it's not a dup of bug 5410.

In fact, what is missing is a way to confirm the selected *resolution* for 
XFree. That is, a sort of grill of lines that mark typical screen sizes. By 
displaying the image at (0,0) on the screen, the last lines shown would then 
correspond to the current resolution.

The difference is that the colors, while nice, only confirm that XFree is 
working. A grill in addition (the same image) would allow to also confirm the 
corect native size.

In the XFree configuration, I chose "test configuration". Some time ago, it was
discussed on the Cooker mailing list to have a background image. None appears,
just a blank background. This doesn't make it possible to confirm the
resolution, just the operation of XFree. (And even then, you have to know that
the "x" cursor means that the X server/client is working.)

Would it be possible to include something that shows tick marks (at 800x600,
1024x768, ...) for resolutions on some very large, non-scaled image? Then the
user can confirm that the correct one was chosen.
