I'll give it a go. The problem I encounter is acutally that the plip 
module is no longer included in the network.img so I can't install it 
onto a laptop I've got. It was included in mdk7. It seems that the 
plip module has to be from the same kernel to communicate with my 
machine correctly (2.2.15-4) so I can't use the network image from 
mdk7. And I'm afraid I dont know how to change the image to include 
it. I also don't know how to open a shell and load it manually from 
elsewhere.
