On Windows even if you don't have the proper driver you at least get a
semi-usable (VGA?) display, this way finding/downloading the correct driver is a
little easier.

Surely there should be something like this when installing Mandrake? Or are
users expected to download and install the necessary driver using Lynx? ;)

At the very least the card should be properly detected and the user told to get
the proprietary driver once installation has finished.
