An interesting observation:

'man consolechars' says fonts can be compressed (gzipped). It
doesn't say anything about .acm files being compressed. Yet the
only .acm (and .sfm) files I see in /etc/sysconfig/console and its
subdirectories ARE gzipped. (Cooker update as of 20Sep2003)

The actual command executed on my machine (Athlon 1.1Ghz on
DFI AK74-EC, VIA chipset) for consolechars is

  consolechars -f /etc/sysconfig/console/lat0-16.psf.gz \
     --acm /etc/sysconfig/console/iso15.acm

and guess what...there is no /etc/sysconfig/console/iso15.acm !!

I tried adding a file check to /sbin/setsysfont so that
iso15.acm.gz would be used if present, but that didn't work.
The only thing that did work (preventing segmentation fault)
was to have a non-compressed version of iso15.acm in
/etc/sysconfig/console.

I have way too much time on my hands.
