KDE : slicker bar + others useful karamba theme + kicker ( but top position, minimal, just to be sure every others apps will work with menu, windows list, desktop switcher ) Gnome : gdesklet panel ( How can we put a menu ? if not possible this should be implement ) + icon for most useful apps ( web browser, mail client, multimedia app as totem, nautilus, multi protocol IM, ... ) + gnome-panel at the top side ( minimum size with menu, logout lock, screen shot, clock, windows list, desktop switcher ) others desktop like fluxbox/WM/... could have default settings maybe with a galaxy theme + idesk ( default mdk icones ) This could give mdk a special signature. If this may not seems stable or corporate enough, you may have the ability if you want an enhanced desktop or a simple desktop ( default one ). One mdk strength was/is supermount ( true now it's stable now ). Mdk need show a great feature that will make users switch to it more or for newcomers make it at first glance be more beautiful that XP/longhorn. Next KDE 3.2 will offer many facilities but I think that things could be improve thanks to apps like superkaramba/gdesklet. At this time Linux desktop is between XP and MacOS X, but with default settings MacOS X and XP are more beautiful and have more bells and whistles. Mdk should distinguish himself with cutting edge default settings thus giving a special touch to mdk and also will maybe help linux desktop having its touch. Concerning the technologies Linux, MacOS X, XP are about to be equal ( even if I think that MacOS X is superior ), now linux need to show it's technologie. ideas : dyntaskbar & systray : http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7890 desktop changer + date/time/uptime : http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7517 ilaunch : http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6708 > > Question : when you modify a theme where can you record the file without > > being root ?
