Found the problem - I went under Mandrake control console and boot options and
enabled "acpi" - then I had to add "ohci1394" to the /etc/modules
After that - it works!

The Sony Notebook has a DVD/CDRW on the docking station which is accessed
through ieee - from all the documentaion I have found across the internet - the
ohci1394 module should work - but I get an error when loading it.
