OK, so instead of fixing XFdrake on your hardware, we should make everyone install and use mc? Sorry Felix, but it works on every single machine I have tried it on (quite a few) and it works fine. It will even (IIRC) install the NVidia RPMS if necessary (if they are accessible via urpmi), and for boxed sets the user doesn't even need to know what the binary drivers are. Please, file a bug on XFdrake instead. > Besides, all of the above is really irrelevant to the value of mc as a support > and file maintenance tool. And so is the argument that mc is the best tool to use to fix X configurations. > mc is an invaluable generic support tool, I would agree it is "valuable", I personally find vim more invaluable, but this shows that these are opinions, not facts. > besides being among the best file managers, and it should be ready to go on > all systems at all times. I can't agree with that one. I may have mc on <10% of my systems, and I don't want it on them. > I shouldn't have to tell a newbie that in order to fix something, > something unrelated must be installed first, which is the problem created by > not installing mc by default. The sooner they learn to use urpmi, the better. Should I say that ksambaplugin should be installed by default so I don't have to tell newbies to install it to configure samba??? > I don't have any control over what packages the newbie > installed. Your first approach should be to solve the problem in the most convenient way possible. Answering hundreds of support questions for 9.1 I have never had to tell a user to edit a config file on the console, since everything could be configured easily with the drakxtools (drakboot, XFdrake etc etc). Instead of labouring this point, could you file bugs on the hardware which cause the problems in the first place, so everyone can benefit? And I don't think that posting the FAQ from the software in question is a valid argument for having it installed by default. If it were, we would have to include everything in the distro by default. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. ------- Reminder: ------- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: RESOLVED creation_date: description: my oppinion is that midnight commander is a powerful console tool and should be selected by default! thanx
