Yes I know, but this is not a problem, <hr /> is not the right solution.
They must be stripped from XHTML and replaced by a border in the CSS. 
This is cosmetic. The job is not finished !
Doing a conversion of a page to XHTML strict is not enough.
A valid page is necessary but not suffisant.
There is yet some other modifications to do.

It is possible to have a correct picture with all the browsers as 
http://www.openweb.eu.org/ 
But the few rules which are necessary are not yet applied.

I made this XHTML to evaluate the time to spend on the site and the 
difficulty. Now, I can tell that the job is rather easy. 
I have spent 2 hours to make the XHTML with  vi. 
The number of errors was >250 at the beginning.

As the code is generated with PHP, this is the time to modify all the modules 
which are used to generate this page. 

A main CSS which gives the general appearance of the site must be shared
by all the pages. Specific cascaded CSS  give the few specificities of each 
page.
