------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-18-10 21:06 -------
I have now tried this on Mandrake 9.2 with the 2.4.22-10mdk-i686-up-4GB kernel
and the result is he same (no NIS accounts listed).

I have also tried the new patch and there is no difference. I'm only interested
in two NIS login accounts appearing, both have valid shells.

This might be a configuration issue regarding how GDM gets the NIS info, but I
can't think what it might be.

One oddity I have found is that the 'ypcat passwd' command no longer lists the
NIS password file when run as a normal user. One has to be root to list the
entries. Could this be related? Are there any new security restrictions?

I use the 'Happy Gnome with Browser' configuration for the Graphical Greeter.
The Browser part allows a user to click on their user icon to select the account
to log in to.

Unfortunately, ulike kdm, it does not show NIS accounts in the browser. If you
type the user's account name in manually however, it _is_ possible to log in.
