Edward, I think something is wrong on your system, ypcat passwd should ALWAYS give you the info, even when using security level 5.. The Browser part allows a user to click on their user icon to select the account to log in to. Unfortunately, ulike kdm, it does not show NIS accounts in the browser. If you type the user's account name in manually however, it _is_ possible to log in.
