I think the issue may have been addressed by recent cooker kernels (2.4.22.13mdk and later) due to the acpi update (from 2.4.23pre6 according to the changelog), but can't test it easily myself.
In the latest tmb kernel, the problem is still there. AFAIK, Thomas has updated acpi before the official MDK update, so they should be in sync. But yes, I'll give the MDK kernel a test-drive tomorrow morning, tonight I'm on dial-up :(
