3)  The alsa directory is missing from the /lib/modules/2.2.17-0.7mdk! Leads 
to errors at boot up ! Copied directory from /lib/modules/2.2.17-0.5mdk and 
it all works again ;-)

Did you instal the last alsa-2.2.17_0.5.8b-0.7mdk (what a number!)?
Everything seems fine here.
