I have a feeling that transient-mark-mode is an artifact from a GNU
Emacs site-start and this isn't applicable to xemacs. I can't speak
authoritatively but there are no symbols in xemacs that refer to
transient-mark-mode and instead I think there is zmacs region to
accomplish the same types of things.
tempo.el and JDE are two packages that break if transient-mark-mode is even
bound.
I also find the default font being defined in site-start rather
annoying as it overrides the user's .Xdefaults settings for Emacs
fonts.
