I am running KDE2 1.93beta3 (build 720) on Mandrake 7.0 (kernel 2.2.14)
And don't have menu bar along the top of the screen.

I have installation of both KDE1 and KDE2 on one machine

Instructions on Mandrake site were usefull - thanks!  :-)
It will be great to have small program which will install KDE2, automatically 
unpacking KDE2 RPMS and making necessary changes after installation.
