Yeh, I have one of those as well.

OK.

Hell, there's your problem.... didn't you read "Consumer Reports" and see
their report on Windows ME ? Sum it up in two words: "Don't" and "Bugs".

OK

You may need to re-install lilo because of the update to me. Remember, your
msdos.sys probably has changed size, date, etc. Which means your master boot
record (MBR) needs to be updated. I would probably clear my MBR using the dos
FDISK /MBR command and then re-install lilo. I am not a dos expert so please
make sure you have backups!

I do not think anyone intentianally ignores you. The problem is very simpley
there are only 24 hours in a day :-) Just to maintain my packages I need to
browse and scan close to 1000 email messages every morning. I've seen your
messages before I admit but I have to prioritize. I think most of the other
packagers have the same problem. If not worse. For some it becomes tougher,
English is my native language, for most of the packagers it is not - If I had
to read everything in French or German I would NEVER get through my email.

It would help a little to know some of the configuration options you selected
when you installed your system but here are a few additional places to look:
/etc/sysconfig/network
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
If you send me a follow-up message please include the contents of those files.

I don't think I would mess with that one.

Carefull here. I assume you are trying to setup your cable modem? If you are
on Media One the order reciept that you where left by the installers has your
host information. You really do not need to do much with this file.
ESPECIALLY if you have a static IP.
If you send some more details on how you want to setup your network (like are
you using your linux box as a router for machines on a local network) and
stuff like that I can probably walk you through it.

make sure you have configured /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
properly.

Please see the above. Also there is a realy good tool called DrakConf (K
Menu-> Configuration --> Other ---> Drakconf) that will automate most of this
for you.

I just did.

I have seen some other messages regarding this and I think you may need to
update X. But how about we focus on one problem at a time and solve your
networking issues first. Once that is working then it will be much easier to
upgrade software.

If you have a ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc from a prior install of kde2 or
kde1 please delete it. Some things changed and you need the new default. I
just deleted mine with the most recent packages and all was OK.

Please upgrade to the latest packages that I posted a few times today already
and see if that solves some of the problems. Let me know.
Finally, may I make a suggestion to you that may solve a lot of your problems:
There is a really good book called "Linux Complete". The ISBN # is
0-7821-2567-0 and it retails for $19.99 USD, $28.95 Canadian, and 14.99
British Pounds (I don't have the simble on my keyboard). It will answer a lot
of your questions regarding the cable modems, networking, and so on.
Everyone else on this list, sorry about a long email.
