I have a DVD-ROM drive (SCSI Panasonic with the slot like in Car CD
players) I love it. I don't have a decoder card, and it works great for
reading data and audio CD's. I bought it for the same reason you're
buying yours. My CD-ROM broke and I replaced it with a DVD in case I'd
ever need it. I've been waiting for a DVD decoder with a good linux
driver.
