I had the same problem with bibView, which i used some times ago. I
build a Mdk rpm recently (a nightmare till a found an already existing
srpm), but only to find it unusable :-(
So i switched to Pybligographic, that manage not only bibtex but alos
other biblio formats. Have, a try, it's quite nice.
Concerning xdvi, i have no such problems altough.
