You can start gnome by editing your .xinitrc file (located in your home dir) If it does exist, then comment out whatever is in there and put one single line in there that says: exec gnome-session or if the file isn't there: cd echo "exec gnome-session" > .xinitrc now startx Hope this helped /Bj�rn
