Oh, and something I forgot to mention..

It's crap like this that is going to ruin the
Linux community. Distributions *MUST* stick
together, we CAN NOT fragment to the point of
incompatibility.

Now, that said, (and I know a bunch of you are
about to reply to this and yell "hypocrit!")
nowhere does it say that Red Hat and Mandrake are
"THE" Linux distribution to remain compatible
with.

At the same time, look at one of the things that
Mandrake has always strived for: maintain Red
Hat compatibility. It hasn't really done them
wrong yet. Look at the numbers, Mandrake is
popular. =)

Also, it is important that you realize who the
industry leaders are when it comes to Linux
distributions. At least in the U.S. market, Red
Hat is god. Corporations like the name "Red
Hat". When you ask someone who knows nothing
about Linux who Red Hat is, they'll say something
like "Yeah, I've heard of them, they're those
Linux people". The words "Red Hat compatible"
suddenly mean a lot.

Mandrake won't purposely break their distro to be
Red Hat compatible. Where would that get them?
Sure, they may put something in there that's not
stable, but once again, it's a development tree.
It's not meant to be stable, YET. It will be, by
the time they're ready to release again. Has
everyone forgotten about patches? Mandrake is #1
when it comes to creating and applying patches
for software packages to make them work.

Please people, let's focus. We have a distro to
make. End the war.
