I have just done a hd.img install from the sunsite.uio.no mirror
using ./no_rsync.pl and had no problem.

Huh??? When I last looked there was a 7.2 updates directory, but
nothing in it (as you would expect).
Try the whole process over again. For an English English install use
no_rsync.pl from my web page to update your downloaded files very
quickly:
