Report back.  If you have the same success, let's get Cooker an
esound-alsa package in it.

But the beauty of ALSA is that it deals with it.

But we can have our cake and eat it too!  You can drive ALSA directly
with esound and have other apps use the OSS shims.  It's going to be a
gradual shift from the OSS API to the ALSA API and it's great that ALSA
lets you do that.  So let's not hold back what we can change (like
esound) just because other stuff is still using the OSS shims.  Let them
change when they want to.
