Hi
I can understand that the goal for the installation-program is to fully
set up the newcomers computer. At least that is what I read in tests by
journalists.
If it is a fact that no Linux, can achieve that aim: I have tried RedHat
6.2 => manually set to 16MB, which is the maximum, the same goes for
Debian Potato 2.2. Slackware 7.1 gives the possibility to give the right
amount in xf86config, the XF86Setup could not go into graphic mode on my
Creativ 3D Blaster RIVA TNT2 VANTA.
Mandrake 7.1 and 7.2betarc1 both suffers from hybris, and sets the
amount to 4096K instead of 32 MB.
After the program has detected a Riva chipset, it ought to be possible
to ask the user if he can give the exact amount, so that 32 bits
1280x1024 can be set instead of 1024x768.
I have had users that have emailed me and said that they are incapable
of using graphic mode at all.
regards
guran
