I installed once again LM7.2, on a laptop that time. Network
configuration during installation took the right PCMCIA network card
(Xircom 10/100), but during boot up process, eth0 was not brought up.

Harddrake is of no help.

I solved the problem by finding out that /var/run/stab contained a
reference for a memory card (and loading memory_cs module)!
Manually removing and inserting the card made cardmgr detect the real
type of card (could be done in soft with cardmgr (or cardctl ?)).
I won't describe precisely all what I had to do to make the network
work.

This laptop belongs to a friend, which is an IT engineer, like me. And I
corrected the problem in half an hour !
How do you expect beginers/intermediate users of Linux to have it work
??

This bug is not what I want to focus in, I know the problem lies
certainly in the order of init sequences, but this shows that :

- a LM 7.21 is a must have (as should have been a RC2) : if this is a
problem of schedule time, next time make the freeze 3 months before the
release! (at least for kernel and core packages);
- If mandrakesoft people don't have access to enough hardware
configurations to test everything, why not relying more on other people
installing cooker and giving real feedback ? I understand it is manpower
consuming, but I find it important.
- A kind of hardware compatibility list, with test regressions would be
useful, as there are too many regressions in supported hardware between
LM 7.2 and 7.1.
- Why not make sub-groups for cooker/RC testing ? For example one for
USB, one for PCMCIA, one for video cards, one for sound cards, one for
window managers, etc ...

PS : I will keep a partition to try out cooker, and see if some problems
are corrected.
