Yes, I agree, and with all other your suggestions as well.
Unfortunately, there is no standard benchmark for Linux. (I mean
graphics/video/window manipulation, not count SPECweb)
I can't agree with many ZDNet WinBench results, but it is better then nothing.
There should be some tests which will show that it worth to make
optimizations.
You also made absolutely right suggestion that vendors should care about
compatibility, drivers, etc.
Unfortunately, as Linux still has small market share, they ignore it.
I also wondering about AMD position. They have around 15% to 20% of processor
market now, so it is still quite small comparing to Intel. They should care
about optimizations for Athlon, and write letters here - please optimize for
us.
Well, it will be interesting to hear AMD's point of view...
