I also had problems with a Ati Rage Fury Maxx (a dual chip Rage 128 pro 
card). I solved it running XFree86 -configure and editing the resulting 
XF86Config file by hand. HardDrake recognize the chip but do not produces a 
usable XF86Config file, that is, for this specific card. DRI also do not 
works propely, but I think that this is waiting to be solved with the next 
XFree86 release.
