That can be but reiserfs has AFAIK some problems when used as builtin and not as
module for the kernel. Also i think he just installed the cooker so he hadn't time to
build a kernel and when you use reiserfs (or scsi) as root you need an initrd.

This is the error i get when i try to install cooker on a reiserfs root partition

* running: mkinitrd -f /boot/initrd-2.4.0-0.12mdk.img --ifneeded 2.4.0-0.12mdk w
ith root /mnt
* warning: mkinitrd failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/bootloader.pm line 73.
* running: mkinitrd -f /boot/initrd-2.4.0-0.12mdk.img --ifneeded 2.4.0-0.12mdk w
ith root /mnt
* warning: mkinitrd failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/bootloader.pm line 73.
