it seems like it did format whatever the choice was.

it should not be so. Yet again, if the default is checked (aka "to be
formatted"), don't go on, leave the install and tell me so.

Well in that case just go on to the choose partitions to format step and tell me
if the windows partition is checked or not. Nobody had any pb when it was not
checked by default.
