Thanks - I didn't know about that route. I am on a local LAN, and I have
always been annoyed when I have to manually change in mc and gftp what is my
email, when I use them for ftp. If I don't do that I am not allowed to enter
certain ftp servers.

One way would be to explicitly ask the user what they need to know during
installation.
