Hello:
Thank you for reply David.
This is passe but maybe needs just-a-little more attention.:)

chicken&egg pb.:( Need QT to build to build/install kdelibs.

You are correct, however, instl of -devel pkgs has nothing to do with
''$KDEDIR does not point to valid KDE2 instl'' or it most certainly
should not. SKDEDIR (kde path) should be defined whenever KDE is
installed, should it not?
Cause:
1) Either the $KDEDIR is not defined correctly during KDE2.1 install,
or-
2) QT is looking in the wrong place for 'vaild KDE2 installation',
or-
3) The reported 'error' is no error at all; hence should be removed or
corrected,
or-
4) your guess is as good as mine; better than mine actually.:)

Lets see: Months back, I installed LM7.2 'developer' as default install
but not _any_ KDE, not even base. Runs fine. No unusual pbs. In fact
runs _better_ w/out kde imo(I much prefer gdm & its configurability)
I decided to build KDE2.1 from src.rpm. Started with QT, as is
required; tried to work around chicken & egg pb by installing
C.Molnar's 2.1CVS files so that I would have a ''valid KDE2 instl'. I
used gnorpm to perform the install task + did the rebuilddb/update
stuff mentioned.
So, what's not installed 'correctly'? Seriously. If there is something
that is wrong with this I must know. I have changed very little from
the default devel install; major things being turning off services that
will get me cracked and installing tripwire and portsentry & other
rubbers.

Are you refering to beta or cooker compile/build of qt? ...cause it
don't work on 7.2 w/out pbs using mdk src.rpm. I do not lie
-ever(personal pb) but do make mistakes as we all do. i cannot find the
mistake here.
Yes , it builds but it builds without KDE2 QTD support according to the
error message that is repeated _twice_ during the build.
Just for fun, I just tried :
It's 19:10:19 on Thu Mar 8.
You are root at { /usr/src/RPM/SRPMS }
#> rpm --rebuild -vv qt2-2.2.4-3mdk.src.rpm
Installing qt2-2.2.4-3mdk.src.rpm
[...]
Build type: linux-g++-static
Thread support....... yes
GIF support.......... yes
MNG support.......... yes
JPEG support......... yes
NAS sound support.... no
Session management... yes
Creating makefiles...
You wanted to compile the Qt Designer with
KDE2 support, but $KDEDIR does not point
to a valid KDE2 installation. KDE support
has been turned off.
[...;]
***same error*** as before.
But this shows that KDE2.1 is installed since 4 Mar:

(yes, all of them were installed as was, guess what, qt2-2.4.3.)
SO, why does qt rebuild not recognize that there is a 'valid' instl ?!?
KDE2.1 was installed on this LM7.2 box using gnorpm, as are most rpms.
> if your system is correctly installed.
Ummm, please define ''correctly installed''.
It appears that you mean KDE _must_ be installed during the LM system
installation to have correct installation. That cannot be true...
Please say that is not true.:)
I do not like KDE that much - too much of a hog. If it must be
installed during initial system installation-setup, we must know cause
it is not normally installed[yes, I remove (uncheck in tree) _all_ kde
default packages before install begins].
I will be doing the same with Beta8-1 very soon... to/night/morrow...
and all future instl until KDE gets the resource usage down to
something reasonable(opinion).
Please cc to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you can reply.
Regards,
rj
