Right, here's my list then :)
1. Choice (TM) is a good thing
2. Solidify Mandrake's reputation as the distro of
choice for leading-edge features - first distro with
built-in XFS !
3. Journalling is a good thing
4. XFS is probably second to only ReiserFS in feature
and stability, and while Reiser appears more compact
for usage with small files, anecdotal evidence claims
that XFS is just *fast*
5. Just as Mandrake and SuSE helps advance ReiserFS
development by providing it as an install option, and
RedHat helps stabilising GNU libc and gcc (remember
RH6.0, RH7.0), although including XFS should be safer
than RH bundling gcc 2.96 since it is just an
*option*, not a requirement
6. A lot of users want it!
7. The cool factor
The drawback is that if the Mandrake developers want
to err on the safe side they will have to package
another set of kernels (one boot kernel, another to
install). XFS-patched kernels work fine with ReiserFS
but one might want to err on the safe side and only
use it if one wants to use XFS...
Hope that's convincing,
Michel
And thanks for listening!
