Hi All,

I tried upgrading my 7.1 install to the 8.0 beta last night on my home PC,
and it repeatedly hangs on me shortly after starting to install packages. The
exact point of failure appears to vary: sometimes, it fails after about 3
seconds, othertimes about 3 minutes.

When it hangs, even the magic sysrq key and ATX power are disabled and the
HDD LED is on contantly (though there are no sounds of disk activity).

I've watched several of the virtual consoles during the failure, and the only
thing of note is that on VC 5, there's only one attempt to load the imm.o and
ppa.o modules whereas I noted two on a machine at work. I do have an old ppa
ZIP drive but I pulled out its power and it made no difference.

Some details:

        Motherboard: TMC T15VGF
        CPU: AMD K6-2/400
        256MB PC100 SDRAM

I had a similar problem with 7.2 but never had time to delve into it due to
work committments. Things are a little better now, so if you can point me in
the right direction, I'll gather all the info necessary.

Thanks,

Tony.
